When we remodeled our kids’ rooms, one thing we knew for sure was that we needed LOTS of bookshelf space. Both of our kids are huge readers, and their book collections just keep growing. We wanted shelves that looked custom and high-end, but we also didn’t want to spend a fortune on built-ins or expensive floating shelves.

These heavy-duty brackets ended up being the perfect solution. We went to Menards and picked up the most inexpensive, non-treated pine 2x8 boards we could find, then used a simple one-step stain we already had on hand. The boards fit perfectly into these brackets and instantly created the custom shelf look we were hoping for.

What really surprised us was how sturdy these brackets are. They easily support rows of heavy books while still looking sleek and minimal. Against the dark painted walls, the matte black brackets almost disappear, allowing the warm wood shelves to stand out beautifully.
